Iwami House

I saw another floor plan that just wanted to be built. I had problems deciding what some aspects were supposed to be and couldn’t believe how tiny it was, but…

This home gave me the exact grid squares (no halving formula on this) and a true 2:1 tatami floor plan (though I’m not sure I followed it!)

I love, love, love the way this turned out; but I do know it’d be challenging to play. I did move in a family of 4.5 to test it out and they miraculously managed NOT to route fail. (But, I am very much in control and do plan out actions like a general. It comes from having eight sims living in a two-story home on a 10×10 lot.)

My greatest challenge on this build was the roof. This is where I learned to have the peak of one roof come to the edge of the higher one – the one on top of the frieze. I adjusted porches a bit, but otherwise kept to the original floor plan wall for wall.

There is a traditional little entry way (genkan) to sit and remove shoes and hang up your coats.

Screenshot-52

It’s right off the Master Bedroom…

Which includes a crib and desk and a door to a walk-in closet.

Screenshot-41

The walk-in closet has a door to the sauna on the left and a door to the walkway (engawa) on the right.

The sauna has another door by the side entrance.

Screenshot-40

That side entrance is by the “bath” room and sits in a wider hall that includes another place to sit and remove shoes. (Around that corner you see the counter next to the sink and a toilet in the far corner with a vented window.) The screen door on the far left leads to a side porch with an outdoor shower. That door leads to the “bath” and the door barely visible on the right leads into the kitchen.

Screenshot-102

The “bath” room is just that. The sink and counter are on the other side of that wall.

Screenshot-135

Here is the main living area. Tiny, yes? That is the stove in the left niche. A counter with a plate rack overhead fits in that center niche.

Screenshot-137

And, in another niche around the corner, behind the stove, is the larder!

Note: I may have put a darker varnish on those shelves in the corner and the green cushions may have faded a bit since these pictures were taken.

Screenshot-114

On the other side of that television wall is a hall that leads to laundry sink, …

compost toilet, …

and guest bedroom.

Screenshot-35

While it sure looks great nestled in the woods and hills, it might be a challenge to play.

I didn’t make a family for this one, but I am hoping that you enjoyed the tour.
