China’s strict single child policy made allowances for twins. So, the Wang family have enjoyed raising their twin girls. Now the laws have changed and families are allowed two children if one of the parents is an only child. But, this family-oriented mother longs for a baby boy; so they’ve left their homeland to start new lives.
The three bedroom apartment at Haiku is perfect for their family and Liling wastes no time setting up a nursery.
She also has fun decorating the twin’s room with them.
Juan, I think, is a computer whiz and, like her mom, is on the computer a lot. (Her name means beautiful and gracious.)
Jia (whose name means good, auspicious, and beautiful) is a natural cook already and loves her little oven.
Jia was quick to point out a problem. She carried her muffin downstairs, out the apartment, upstairs, through the bar, and out onto the balcony there. Sadly, the bar decided to not have tables and chairs on the balcony after that.
On the other hand, after putting leftovers in the fridge, Juan ate on their family balcony (probably because she left the laptop on the table inside.)
She cleaned up her plate at the kitchen sink just around the corner. (These floors and ceilings were later changed.)
It was the weekend; so after lunch, Juan played with blocks upstairs.
The father, He, went to the library after getting a job as a Private Investigator. He took a muffin along for a snack.
After a busy day, He slipped into a changing booth where he planned to change into bathing attire. (These floors and ceilings all changed later.)
But, he was surprised and diverted by Liling, who had other plans.
She’s serious about wanting a baby boy.
And, after the girls are tucked in bed and sleeping soundly…
The parents are dreaming of another little one.
It’s muffins for breakfast.
He went off to look through mail and trash as part of his job.
Liling got a job delivering papers, but she’s hoping to make a career in journalism. So she heads to the library after work to do research until her eyes cross. Then she phones some contacts to get ideas for possible stories. The girls join her there after school and get help with their homework from the friendly librarian.
By the time He gets home, Liling is there to meet him and melt away some tension.
Life is good and it gets better.
Liling now knows she’s carrying a baby. So, no more paper routes for now. She concentrates on some freelance articles.
He joins her in the library after work to do some research of his own.
Then, it’s back home in the family car – a Prius, of course.
The girls enjoy a game of hopscotch before bed.
The next morning, Jia wants to play to tag with Liling. Liling’s back is a little sore, so maybe the exercise will help.
Juan is still in the tub when the others start.
But, soon they are all enjoying the fresh air and Jia has decided it’s not too cold to take a dip in the pool.
Someone else is enjoying the sauna, while they enjoy being outdoors. So, the Haiku apartments seem like a great place to raise a family.
